B.J. Penn will do whatever it takes when he meets Frankie Edgar. The two will be opposing coaches on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and compete at a later date.
Andre Pederneiras, who coaches interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao and featherweight champ Jose Aldo, has been called to help train Penn. To do so, he’s bringing over Aldo.
“He is really excited and motivated with his fight against Edgar,” said Pederneiras to Combate. “It’s going to be a great opportunity for me to show my work as a coach to the audience outside of Brazil, which is not used to see my work closely.”
Edgar defeated Penn to capture the lightweight belt and defeated him in the rematch. He dropped to featherweight this year and is 1-1 in the new weight class. The defeat came from Aldo.
Penn hasn’t fought since December, when Rory MacDonald easily defeated the former title bearer. If Penn gets the win as featherweight, he becomes the first UFC fighter to score the victory in three separate weight classes.
Their season of TUF will air next year and they fight on an unknown card.
