Bellator’s light heavyweight champion Attila Vegh is claiming that the promotion moved his scheduled title fight to make way for Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Emanuel Newton. That rematch is for the interim light heavyweight title.
“It’s about business on Bellator’s side,” said Vegh to MMA Rocks. “People want to see the rematch between King Mo and Newton. That’s why my fight is postponed to January and I’ll face the winner of the November’s fight. I’m not injured, I’m perfectly fine.”
If Vegh is telling the truth, Bellator has some explaining to do.
During the Season 8 light heavyweight tournament, Lawal was a favorite before Newtown knocked him out with a spinning backfist. Newton would go on to win the tournament. Lawal was able to take the 2013 Summer Series with two stoppages.
Lawal-Newton is set for Bellator 106, which is November 2. The PPV comes from the Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, CA.
