Anthony Pettis’ first UFC lightweight title defense will come this December, just not against TJ Grant.
Grant, who formally withdrew from the bout, has been replaced by Josh Thomson.
UFC on FOX: Pettis vs. Thomson is set for December 14 from Sacramento. The only other bout announced so far is a contest between Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald.
Thomson (20-5) is a former Strikeforce champion and owns a 3-1 UFC mark over two stints. He returned to the Octagon this past April and defeated Nate Diaz.
Pettis became the new UFC champion by besting Benson Henderson last month.
“Excited to defend my title,” Pettis posted on Twitter after the fight announcement was made official, “Sacramento get ready for a show!!!!!”
