Fresh off a stunning victory over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on FOX 14, Anthony Johnson was pressed to deliver a message to his next opponent: UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
“Jon, keep your hands up, because if you don’t, it’s lights out,” said Johnson, during the post-fight show on FOX Sports 2.
Johnson earned his third consecutive victory since returning to the promotion, and will likely meet Jones for the belt later this year. “Rumble” was released by the UFC after missing weight as a welterweight, but found his new home on the regional circuit – along with several wins.
In stepping into hostile territory, Johnson did something not even Jones could do – stop “The Mauler.” Last year, Jones claimed a decision over Gustafsson to retain his title.
He saw everything that happened inside the Octagon during practice, giving him an opening to strike and finish.
“We always train for that kick,” Johnson said. “He hit me with a few punches and once he threw a kick, I knew he was in my range.”
As for that upcoming championship match, Johnson says he will finish Jones “the same way I took out Gus: I’ll knock him out.
“I’m going to do my best to take his head off.”
