Andre Fili missed weight for his welterweight meeting with Jeremy Larsen for UFC 166, but the fight went on at catchweight. Early into round two and Fili finished Larsen for his first UFC win. Fili accepted the contest two weeks out.
“It was a very hard cut and I’m not going to make any excuses,” said Fili to MMA Fighting. “There were a lot of factors. I was coming from welterweight and got the opportunity to fight here. I didn’t want to pass it up, but I had a lot of weight to cut. I came up short and knew I had to redeem myself today.”
Fili goes to 13-1, with time spent in Tachi Palace Fights and Gladiator Challenge.
Larsen has now dropped three straight fights under the UFC name. All of those defeats came via stoppage.
They were on the prelims of UFC 166, which was October 19. It came from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX and complete results can be found here.
