Vitor Belfort has done enough in the eyes of Anderson Silva to warrant a middleweight title fight. This year, Belfort has taken three wins for the UFC with two ending in the opening round.
“I believe he deserves to fight for the title, even because he has been doing his part [to earn a title shot], just like other fighters like Ronaldo Jacare and Lyoto Machida, who just dropped to 185,” said Silva.
The most recent win for Belfort came at UFC Fight Night 32, where he became the first person to knockout Dan Henderson. It was a rematch from their 2006 PRIDE encounter, when Henderson took the win.
Silva will look to regain the middleweight belt from Chris Wiedman at UFC 168. The former champ defended his title over Belfort, using a front kick for a round one win.
UFC 168 is headlined with Wiedman-Silva on December 28. It’s from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV and is the final UFC card for the year.
