Ali Bagautinov First UFC Win Took Longer Than Expected

UFC Fight Night 28 saw a slew of fresh faces. Included was the Russian Ali Bagautinov, who got the late third round finish over Marcos Vinicius. Bagautinov accepted the win, but was looking to end the fight much sooner.

“Initial plans were to finish him off in the first round,” said Bagautinov to MMA Fighting. “It didn’t go according to plans because I only started warming out in the second round and what I originally planned for the first round only started in the second one. But overall I’m happy, of course. It’s my UFC debut and I won by knockout, that’s as good as it gets.”

The flyweight is 11-2 with all his previous fights taking place in Russia. Bagautinov was the reigning Fight Nights flyweight champ when he signed a UFC contract.

Vinicius is 1-2 under the UFC banner and riding defeats. He closed last year with his only win against Johnny Bedford.

They were on the main card of UFC Fight Night 28, which was September 4. It came from Brazil’s Mineirinho Arena.
