Alexander Volkov knows a win at Bellator 108 means he remains heavyweight champion, but he must keep evolving as tougher names are entering the promotion. First, Volkov needs to get past the 2013 Summer Series tournament winner Vitaly Minakov.
“Beating Minakov and retaining my title would mean that I’m still evolving, that I’m progressing as a fighter, and that I’m ready to fight on this level and keep defending the belt,” said Volkov. “Bellator recently signed some other tough heavyweights and I would be glad to defend my title against them.”
The 25-year-old champion hasn’t fought since December 2012. He’s 19-3 and has won 10 consecutive fights.
Minakov used his hands to win the tournament. One of those wins against Ron Sparks took 32 seconds.
Bellator 108 is tomorrow, November 15. It’s from Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
Former UFC fighter Cheick Kongo just won the Season 9 heavyweight tournament and has earned a future title shot.
