Alexander Gustafsson’s name has been in the news as of late following his decision loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Now, it’s in the news for something a little different.
Gustafsson has left Alliance MMA to train solely in his native country of Sweden, the fighter told Aftonbladet, a tabloid in Sweden.
“Now I’m in that stage of my career that I will compete three or four times a year, so I can not hold on and go off all the time,” Gustafsson said. “It costs too much and it takes too much time away from my family. It’s simply not worth it.”
Alliance MMA is located in San Diego, quite the distance from Sweden. Gustafsson went to the gym following a loss to Phil Davis and trained with the former NCAA wrestling champion quite often.
It’s been rumored that Gustafsson and Davis could be paired up for a rematch, and that might be more likely if they are not close training partners anymore.
