Al Iaquinta and his team really had to do their homework in preparing for Kevin Lee Saturday night at UFC 169.
Iaquinta, a former Ultimate Fighter runner-up, said he saw a few of Lee’s fights via YouTube, as he was making his Octagon debut. That didn’t stop “Ragin Al,” who scored a decision victory.
Now, the Serra-Longo fighter is hoping for someone of name-value next.
“Whatever they give me, (but) hopefully somebody (with a high ranking),” Iaquinta told FightLine.com. “Maybe a guy that’s been around for a while. That will get me amped up.”
Iaquinta (8-2-1) nearly finished Lee in the opening round, rattling him and sending him down. One of the three judges ruled it a 10-8 round – which is something Iaquinta hopes to see more of.
“I think maybe that’s the way they should score fights more,” he said. “I almost got the finish in the first round. That should be 10-8.”
After spending time on the sidelines recovering from injuries since his stint on TUF, Iaquinta said he wants to “get right back in there. I’m feeling healthy and have time to make up.”
