According to sources close to FightLine, AGON V will air April 4 from Iowa City on a “huge player in combat sports entertainment.”
The event will feature Aaron Pico taking on former University of Iowa national champion Brent Metcalf. Pico has signed a contract with Bellator MMA, but is focusing his attention on the upcoming Summer Olympics.
Since negotiations are still on-going, the source could not confirm which network will air the event, but did say it will air live and in primetime.
The same source added plans to sign former Hawkeye wrestlers Tony Ramos, Derek St. John and others to compete.
Former Olympic wrestler and ex-Bellator champion Ben Askren works closely with AGON, along with his brother, Max. AGON is owned and operated by the United Wrestling Group, LLC.
