There aren’t many fighters as beloved as Barry. Unfortunately, his nickname – “HD” – might as well stand for “hasn’t delivered”, at least in terms of securing success consistently. Barry has blasted a few foes during his time in the UFC but he’s also been knocked out cold on more than one occasion. For a small heavyweight entering his mid-30s who likes to strike that’s bad news. If he succumbs to blows one more time, the UFC will almost certainly have to consider cutting him unless he slims down to 205 pounds (which isn’t likely). Of course, his loss would be Bellator’s gain given Barry’s personality and penchant for the occasional highlight-reel rocking.
With Lavar Johnson recently signing with Bellator, joining other recent castoffs from the UFC like Cheick Kongo, Tito Ortiz, and Quinton Jackson, it’s clear the organization is becoming a home for fighters who come with the added appeal of past action in the Octagon. Barring a sudden shift in policy, chances are the coming months will feature more of the same. Fortunately for Bellator (and Viacom), there are plenty of potential options on the horizon. Here are five worth keeping an eye on… (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
